How it works
We review and update every article weekly. When the record changes, so does the article.
The weekly cycle
- Monday: re-check. Every published case goes through a scan of its sources and of new reporting. Each case shows the date it was last checked and when the next check is due.
- When the record changes, the case gets a dated entry in its update log, with its own sources. Earlier text isn't quietly rewritten. Corrections are labeled as corrections.
- When nothing changes, only the last-checked date moves. Quiet isn't the same as closed.
Sources
Cases are original rewrites of public records from around the world: archives, newspapers, official reports and peer-reviewed papers. Each one is linked so you can check it yourself. More on sourcing, images and status labels is in How we work.
