About the Ledger
Anomaly Ledger collects short case files on cryptids, unidentified aerial phenomena, out-of-place artifacts, and related folklore. The tone is that of a curious archivist: patient, sourced where possible, and wary of spectacle.
From quiet collecting to a public ledger
These notes began as a private habit of filing public curiosities — press reports, museum pages, government releases, and long-running folklore — rewritten in one house voice. The site is that filing cabinet opened: original rewrites, status labels, and citations readers can check. It is not a claim of months of public publishing history, traffic, or a newsroom launch narrative.
Sourcing, rewriting, image licensing, living-case updates and corrections are spelled out on How we work.
Purpose
This site exists for entertainment and intellectual curiosity. It is not a news outlet, investigative bureau, laboratory, or claim of scientific authority. Entries are original rewrites composed from publicly available news, government, and historical sources — not wire copy, not scraped syndication, and not pasted private chat transcripts.
Dates on a case file
Added is when the file entered this public ledger (a real calendar day). Event, when shown, is the historical or topical timing of the subject — a 1947 recovery, a 1908 explosion, a festival weekend — and is labeled separately so archive chronology is not confused with publish dates.
Status labels
When a status is set on a case file, it means:
- Hoax — widely recognized as fabricated or staged.
- Folklore — transmitted story or tradition; not treated as verified fact.
- Open — unresolved or contested; evidence incomplete; no ledger conclusion of origin.
- Cited — primarily a summary of named historical or archival sources with a clearer documentary trail.
- Disputed — popular claim actively contested by mainstream scholarship or competing primary readings.
Labels are honest filing tags, not marketing. An open case is not secretly “proven”; a folklore case is not a specimen waiting in a vault.
Ethics & disclaimer
We do not present rumor as confirmed fact. Hoaxes and folklore are labeled when known. Open cases stay open. Source lines point readers toward public records and named outlets rather than asserting secret knowledge or exclusive access.
Livestock deaths, military video, satellite imagery, and similar reports are summarized carefully: unexplained does not mean identified as a cryptid, spacecraft, or conspiracy. Where press coverage discusses competing explanations (scavengers, climate, sensor artifact, misidentification), we leave room for them.
Geographic tags may appear on individual files; they are metadata, not a brand claim. Nothing here should be used for medical, legal, financial, or safety decisions. If you encounter something that looks like an emergency, contact appropriate local authorities — not a blog.
